ALL YOUR A.C.MILAN HEROES
Pierino Prati, the legend

On these pages we will periodically recount the story of the great champions of the Milan soccer club.

We could not start with anyone other than Pierino Prati.

Pierino Prati came up through the Milan youth organization. He was sent to the series “C” Salernitana club to gain experience. There he made his professional soccer debut and led the team to a championship victory and its promotion to series B. The next year, he moved on to series B soccer in Savona. Then he returned to Milan where he played for seven triumphant years.

On the whole he won:
2 Italian Cups;
2 Cup of Cups;
1 pennant (68/69 season);
the 1969 Champion’s Cup;
the 1970 Intercontinental Cup.

In 1967 he also won classification as top scorer of the Italian championship.

He then moved on to Rome where he stayed 5 years and then on to Fiorentina (one year).

He finally returned to Savona, in series C, where he concluded his professional career three years later in 1981.

Pierino Prati also played 18 matches on the Italian national team, scoring a total of 7 goals.

He still holds the record for goals scored (3) in a Champion’s Cup final (Milan-Ajax, 4-1).

With the national team he was European champion in 1968 and World runner up in Mexico in 1970.

Over such a lengthy career, Prati had many coaches including Nils Liedholm from Sweden and the Nereo Rocco nicknamed the “Paron”.

He hung up his shoes but he has never abandoned soccer. Since taking the “Super training” course for top level Coaches in Coverciano he has dedicated himself to training youths.

For seven years now he has been instructor at soccer schools associated with the A.C.Milan.
